Arne Slot‘s position as Liverpool head coach was the focus in the Dutch media after Wednesday’s 4-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven, with claims he should now be sacked.
Slot has now lost nine of his last 12 games in charge of Liverpool and his record since the defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in March stands at 14 losses in 30.
The crisis is deepening and there is now genuine speculation over whether the club could part ways with their title-winning head coach.
Given PSV were widely considered underdogs heading to Anfield, the consensus back in the Netherlands is that Slot is in trouble.

Voetbal International ran with the headline ‘There is every reason to fire Arne Slot‘ as journalist Suleyman Ozturk questioned his “desperate” stance:
“Arne Slot‘s analyses are starting to feel a bit desperate.
“He’s saying nothing of substance different than before and continues to observe his team with the stoic gaze of a lab technician.
“But despite all the analyses he unleashes on himself and his team, not much is changing. Instead of improving things, it seems as if his approach is having a counterproductive effect.”

Valentijn Driessen took a similar view in his column for De Telegraaf, sensing a change in Slot – who had “pure panic in his eyes”:
“At some point, Slot will have to come up with definitive answers for Liverpool’s American owners and management. How will he stop this disillusionment?
“Because if Slot doesn’t manage this in the short term, he might no longer be the right man in the right place at Liverpool for them.
“Observing Slot after the telling loss against PSV doesn’t bode well. Aside from disbelief and helplessness, after the final whistle, for the first time in Slot’s managerial career, you saw pure panic in his eyes.
“Although Slot had recovered 15 minutes later in front of the cameras, what remained after this historic PSV evening was mainly the image of panic in the eyes of Liverpool’s head coach.”
Writing for Algemeen Dagblad, Sjoerd Mossou claimed Slot has now lost his golden touch:
“On a historic night for PSV, Arne Slot‘s ordeal at Liverpool continued in a painful way.
“For the manager who always seemed to turn everything into gold, everything suddenly slipped away.”
Speaking on the Voetbalpraat podcast, Dutch striker Anco Jansen – who played against Slot five times while they were at BV Veendam and PEC Zwolle respectively – argued that the Liverpool coach still has credit in the bank:
“I think Arne rightly deserves a lot of credit if you win the championship in your first year.
“Only if you lose nine of the last twelve matches, concede seven goals in the last two, and you’re completely out of it, then it’s a really bad situation.”
“I don’t know what the club’s management thinks, but I’m inclined to lean towards credit. Liverpool isn’t a club that tends to do that easily.
“You always need to see some kind of perspective, but there isn’t any. They’re giving up.”
Slot is set to hold his pre-West Ham press conference at the AXA Training Centre at 3pm on Thursday, when he could face more questions over his future.
