'Interested in me': Real Madrid Galactico admits Everton actually wanted to sign him at one…

Everton are entering a new chapter in their history, with The Friedkin Group looking to make some big signings.

David Moyes has certainly reaped the rewards of the new ambition on Merseyside as Everton begin to work their way up the table.

Over the summer, the Friedkins were keen to sign a statement signing ahead of the move into the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

More is going to be needed in the January transfer window on the back of numerous injuries and suspensions suffered in the opening months of the term.

Everton landed star quality with James Rodriguez not too long ago and it is a theme which dates way back.

Another former Real Madrid player has now admitted that he had the opportunity to join the Toffees back in his playing days.

“Unfortunately, I could not go to Chelsea in 2007,” said the Brazilian left-back.

“But Aston Villa, Chelsea and Everton, all three teams were interested in me at that time, but Chelsea was the closest I came in 2007.”

This was during Moyes’ first stint at the club, where he had a young Leighton Baines making a name for himself after signing from Wigan Athletic.

Rickie Lambert says Baines had the best left foot he’s ever seen from a footballer.

That may have been very different if the Blues had landed the legendary Brazilian instead of Baines back in the summer of 2007.

Roberto Carlos could have brought star quality to Everton

In 2007, Carlos departed the Bernabeu and made the move to Turkey where he landed with Fenerbahce.

Clearly, this was towards the back end of his career as he played three years with the Istanbul giants before moving to Brazil.

Grealish has earned Everton significant money through shirt sales and adding a player like Carlos could have had a similar effect back in 2007.

However, the impact on potentially then missing out on Baines could have been huge.

Moyes was forced into signing Baines, but it was a move that certainly worked out for the best, with the former left-back still at the club today.
