Arne Slot is under mounting pressure

Liverpool’s owners are reportedly firmly behind Arne Slot despite the Reds’ dire run of form.

Just months after being crowned Premier League champions, Liverpool’s defence of the title has crumbled embarrassingly and a new low was reached on Wednesday night when PSV Eindhoven condemned the Reds to a ninth defeat in 12 matches.

PSV ran out 4-1 winners at Anfield, marking a third consecutive three-goal margin loss and compiling the 3-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, seeing the Reds suffer a 7-1 aggregate loss in their two home matches just days apart.

Speculation has grown that Slot could face the sack with Liverpool sitting in 12th despite breaking the British transfer record twice and splashing over £400million in the summer transfer window.

However, it’s reported that Liverpool’s Fenway Sports Group (FSG) owners see no reason to panic or doubt their faith in the Dutchman.

Liverpool suffered a ninth defeat in 12 games

Speaking about Slot’s future on The Athletic FC Podcast, reporter Oliver Kay said: “The murmurings I’ve heard from within the club [Liverpool] have been very, very positive – solid in support of Arne Slot and sympathetic to the difficulties he’s facing.

“The message that has been relayed to me is: no panic. We are confident in the changes we made in the summer, and we are confident in a manager who delivered the league title six months ago.”

Speaking after the defeat, Slot insisted he still has the backing of the owners. “I am feeling safe; I am OK. I have got a lot of support from above,” he said.

“If you are not doing well, it is normal that questions are asked. I’m not worried. My focus is on improving the team, not my own position.”

Slot has also been given similar backing by Reds legends Steven Gerrard and Steve McManaman, as both dismissed the former PSV boss was on the brink of being sacked after his former club humiliated him.

Speaking on TNT Sport, Former winger McManaman said: "I think no. I think it's far too early, what he's achieved and where he is now this year, that's a good run of fixtures.

Steven Gerrard refused to say Liverpool are in a 'crisis'

"I understand the question completely but with that run of fixtures, Liverpool still fighting in the Champions League, it's far too early to come up with a question like that. They will have to be knocked out of the Champions League and wallowing at the bottom of the league.

"I think they play Arsenal second week in Jan, that's when the question should be asked. Hopefully they'll have climbed the table. You have to give him time for the signings, who have constantly been injured, they're ones you'd expect to come in and lift the team.

"If anything, they've detracted from the team, they look lopsided. It's far too early to ask a manager that question when he's achieved so much in a small space of time, I do understand the world we live in, that question will be bandied around."

While Gerrard said he wouldn’t use the word ‘crisis’ at this stage. He added: "That's the world we live in, that's football in the modern day. I've been in that position myself.

"You understand that if you're not getting the results, there is going to be serious questions asked, stewards inquiry, that comes with the territory especially at the top end.
