Jamie Carragher launched a scathing attack on Arne Slot, claiming the Liverpool boss deserves the boot for repeatedly picking Ibrahima Konate in his starting eleven.

The Reds legend was caught venting his fury about both Slot and Konate during a heated off-air telephone conversation in the CBS studio on Wednesday evening.

French defender Konate found himself in the firing line yet again following another series of blunders during their crushing 4-1 Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven.

The humiliating loss marked their third consecutive reverse and ninth setback in their last 12 outings, piling enormous pressure on Slot to rescue his position.

Slot eventually hauled off Konate during the second period, introducing midfielder Federico Chiesa in his place.

Working as a pundit for CBS Sports, Carragher watched in despair as his former club were torn apart.

"It was handball, his hand went up. What is he doing? ," the Reds legend slammed Virgil van Dijk's handball which handed PSV their opener. "What the f*** is going on here? What the absolute..

"Oh f****** hell, Gakpo. Oh my God, Konate. Oh my God, Konate. Watch Konate, here. Oh my God. I've f****** had enough of them, honest to God, that Konate.

"I mean, that's a sackable offence for the manager, he keeps picking him. He should be sacked for that. Have they scored again, 4-1. What's this, 9 in 12?"

There's been a fair bit of discussion about whether Slot is still the right fit for the job after leading the Reds to Premier League victory in his debut season. Despite splashing out on new recruits, the team has underperformed, with the attack struggling to find its rhythm.

However, the Daily Star understands that Liverpool are not contemplating an immediate decision to sever ties with Slot.

In defence, both Konate and Van Dijk have come under fire this season. Carragher has even gone so far as to suggest that starting Konate is a 'sackable offence.'

Despite setting a new record for the highest amount spent in a transfer window by a Premier League club, Liverpool's summer signings have also had a tough time. Even after a £35million deal for Marc Guehi fell through at the last minute - the £446m, including add-ons, that was spent is a Premier League record.
