Jamie Carragher claimed that Arne Slot should be SACKED by Liverpool for continually selecting Ibrahima Konate in an angry rant. The Reds icon was caught fuming about Slot and Konate in an explosive off-air phone call in the CBS studio on Wednesday night.

Frenchman Konate came under the spotlight once again after a string of errors in their 4-1 Champions League humiliation to PSV Eindhoven. The embarrassing defeat was their third in a row and ninth in the last 12 games, leaving Slot under serious pressure to save his job.

Slot later substituted Konate in the second half, bringing on midfielder Federico Chiesa. On punditry duty with CBS Sports, Carragher was exasperated as he watched his former side be put to the sword.

Carragher's behind-the-scenes reaction to Liverpool's dismantling was revealed in a video uploaded to CBS Sports' Facebook. "It was handball, his hand went up. What is he doing?," the Reds icon was caught saying about Virgil van Dijk after PSV's opening goal. "What the f*** is going on here? What the absolute..."

He then was heard saying: "Oh f****** hell, Gakpo," before laying into Konate, who was heavily blamed for PSV's third goal. "Oh my God, Konate. Oh my God, Konate. Watch Konate, here. Oh my God. I've f****** had enough of them, honest to God, that Konate."

The seething ex-Liverpool defender was then seen making a call and slamming Slot. "I mean, that's a sackable offence for the manager, he keeps picking him. He should be sacked for that. Have they scored again, 4-1. What's this, 9 in 12?"

There has been plenty of debate about whether Slot remains the right man for the job after guiding the Reds to Premier League glory in his first season. The squad has underperformed, with the attack struggling to gel despite spending in excess of £400million on new additions.

While the likes of Liverpool's expensive new signings, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, have taken the brunt of the criticism, key players like Mohamed Salah and Van Dijk have also had the finger pointed at them for underperforming.

Konate's partnership with Van Dijk has been heavily scrutinised as well, with Liverpool conceding 10 goals in their last three matches. Despite calling for Slot's head in a moment of rage, Carragher has insisted that the Reds boss deserves a little more time.

"Liverpool is not a sacking club," Carragher said on CBS. "Liverpool are different from almost every club in European football where the manager is the king. They get time. Liverpool have never sacked a manager who won the league. Never, in their history - after a few years, they've gone and resigned.

"I couldn't believe at the weekend that people were talking about the manager's job, when I spoke to Liverpool supporters after losing at home to Nottingham Forest. It's only going to amplify now.

"I've always been in the camp of you stick with the manager. I'm really angry with the players, if I'm being honest. But it does get to a stage, with any manager at any club, where I always use this word 'untenable', where it can't go on any longer. I'm not quite there yet, personally, in terms of the manager, but I know a lot of supporters will be."

Pressure is already mounting on the Dutch head coach, and he'll need to guide Liverpool back to winning ways in Sunday's Premier League trip to West Ham, or it could be curtains soon.
