Tottenham ahead of Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle in race to sign €100m-rated Olympic gold medalist

Tottenham are leading the race for the signature of FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa, amidst interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle.

Thomas Frank’s Tottenham are looking to sign a new striker on a priority basis, and they have their eyes set on Samu Aghehowa. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Newcastle United are also keen on his signature, but according to a report from CaughtOffside, Spurs are front-runners in the race to sign the FC Porto sensation.

Aghehowa has only gone from strength to strength since joining Porto from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024. He has taken his game to the next level in the last 18 months, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The 21-year-old Spanish striker has been in sensational form this season. He has been involved in 15 matches across competitions and has contributed towards 10 goals.

Premier League clubs are keen on signing Aghehowa

His impressive performances and massive potential are major reasons why some of the biggest clubs are after his signature. Chelsea tried to sign him before he joined the Portuguese club, and the Blues have been keeping tabs on him ever since.

Newcastle have also been linked with the 21-year-old for some time. While they remain interested in his services, they might not after him anytime soon, given that they have signed Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa in the summer.

While Arsenal secured the services of Viktor Gyokeres to be their main man up top, they are still in the market for a new striker as they consider alternatives to the injury-prone duo of Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.

Tottenham are ahead of the competition

Spurs had a decent start to life under Thomas Frank, but of late, things haven’t been that great for them. Their attack doesn’t seem to have enough firepower, as Mathys Tel and Randal Kolo Muani haven’t had the kind of impact Tottenham were hoping for, while Dominic Solanke has struggled to stay fit.

As a result, the North London club are very keen to sign Aghehowa, who could help them in the short as well as the long run. Spurs are front-runners, but they will have to fork out a massive fee to get a deal over the line, as the 21-year-old is protected by a massive €100m release clause. While reports suggest Porto could accept somewhere around €90 million, it will still end up being a record deal for Frank’s club.
