Jamie Carragher says Arne Slot should be fired for decision made in Liverpool's dismal PSV defeat

Jamie Carragher declared that Arne Slot should be fired by Liverpool for repeatedly selecting Ibrahima Konate in a furious outburst.

The Reds legend was captured raging about Slot and Konate during an explosive off-air telephone conversation in the CBS studio on Wednesday evening. French defender Konate found himself in the spotlight yet again following a series of blunders in their 4-1 Champions League humiliation against PSV Eindhoven.

The mortifying loss marked the Reds' third consecutive defeat and ninth in their last 12 matches, placing Slot under intense pressure to rescue his position. Slot subsequently withdrew Konate during the second half, introducing midfielder Federico Chiesa.

Whilst on punditry duties with CBS Sports, Carragher grew increasingly frustrated as he witnessed his former club being dismantled. Carragher's backstage response to Liverpool's demolition was exposed in footage shared on CBS Sports' Facebook page.

"It was handball, his hand went up. What is he doing? ," the Reds icon was overheard commenting about Virgil van Dijk following PSV's opening goal. "What the f*** is going on here? What the absolute.."

He was then heard exclaiming: "Oh f****** hell, Gakpo," before unleashing criticism towards Konate, who bore significant responsibility for PSV's third goal. "Oh my God, Konate. Oh my God, Konate. Watch Konate, here. Oh my God. I've f****** had enough of them, honest to God, that Konate."

The furious former Liverpool defender was then spotted making a phone call and criticising Slot. "I mean, that's a sackable offence for the manager, he keeps picking him. He should be sacked for that. Have they scored again, 4-1. What's this, 9 in 12?".

There has been considerable discussion about whether Slot remains the appropriate choice for the role after leading the Reds to Premier League success in his debut campaign. The squad has failed to meet expectations, with the attacking unit struggling to find cohesion despite expenditure exceeding £400million on fresh recruits.

Nevertheless, Mirror Football understands that Liverpool are not contemplating an immediate decision to sever ties with Slot. Whilst the club's costly new acquisitions, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, have borne the brunt of the criticism, established stars like Mohamed Salah and Van Dijk have also faced scrutiny.

Konate's defensive partnership with Van Dijk has come under intense examination too, with Liverpool shipping 10 goals across their previous three fixtures. Despite demanding Slot's dismissal in a moment of frustration, Carragher has maintained that Slot warrants additional time.

"Liverpool is not a sacking club," Carragher said on CBS. "Liverpool are different from almost every club in European football where the manager is the king. They get time. Liverpool have never sacked a manager who won the league. Never, in their history - after a few years, they've gone and resigned.

"I couldn't believe at the weekend that people were talking about the manager's job, when I spoke to Liverpool supporters after losing at home to Nottingham Forest. It's only going to amplify now.

"I've always been in the camp of you stick with the manager. I'm really angry with the players, if I'm being honest. But it does get to a stage, with any manager at any club, where I always use this word 'untenable', where it can't go on any longer. I'm not quite there yet, personally, in terms of the manager, but I know a lot of supporters will be."

The Dutch head coach is already feeling the heat, and he'll need to steer Liverpool back onto the victory path in Sunday's Premier League match against West Ham, or his tenure could soon be over.
