Arsenal are leading the race for the signature of Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City midfield target Rodrigo Mendoza.
Elche midfield sensation Rodrigo Mendoza has made quite a name for himself with his impressive performances, and it has resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Manchester City are all keen on his signature.
But, according to a report from TEAMtalk, the Gunners are front-runners to sign the Spanish youth international. However, given the number of clubs that are after his signature, there could be an intense transfer battle on the cards in the winter window.
Mendoza has come up the ranks at Elche. He got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2023 and has only gone from strength to strength since. Not only has he established himself as a key figure in the team, but he is also widely regarded as one of the best young midfielders in La Liga.
While his contract at the Spanish club runs until the summer of 2028, there is a £17.5 million release clause, which makes a winter departure very likely. Multiple top clubs from across Europe are aware of the bargain clause, and they are ready to make a move in January.
Premier League giants to battle for Mendoza
Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City, and Arsenal are all keen on his signature. The English clubs are ready to battle it out to secure his services. While the Blues, Spurs and City have all established contacts with his agents to learn more about a potential move, the Gunners are believed to be leading the race for his signature.
While he prefers playing as a central midfielder, the 20-year-old is capable enough to feature in any role. He is very comfortable on the ball and has an exceptional work rate, making him an ideal fit for clubs in England.
Mikel Arteta considers him a perfect fit for his posession-based style of football. Mendoza will add depth to their already strong midfield, and he could prove to be a great investment for the long run.
Chelsea’s project revolves around signing the best young players, and Mendoza certainly fits the bill. Meanwhile, City and Tottenham are also keeping tabs on him as he keeps signing in La Liga for Elche.
