Why Dan Campbell took offensive playcalling duties for Lions

If you want something done right, do it yourself.

That's a classic mantra, and Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is embracing it.

In Week 10, Campbell took over offensive play-calling duties from offensive coordinator John Morton.

That week, the Lions scored 44 points, and Campbell has kept the playsheet since.

Why did Dan Campbell take offensive playcalling duties?

Dan Campbell felt the Lions needed to shake things up to get the offense rolling.

After the Week 10 win in which Campbell called plays, he explained.

"It was just, let's try something a little different," Campbell said.

The Lions' former offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson, is now the Chicago Bears' head coach.

That means Detroit had to turn to a new guy, in this case, Morton.

And by the midpoint of the season, Campbell wanted to see how he could do in that role himself, albeit one he has performed in before.

If the Lions' offense keeps humming like this, no one is going to contest Campbell's thinking here at all.

So far, it's working as well as the head coach could've imagined.
