Leeds United suffer 'bad news' with new injury crisis ahead of Manchester City visit

Leeds United 1 Aston Villa 2: Lee Sobot's YEP video verdict

Daniel Farke has provided his Leeds United team news for Saturday’s Premier League clash at Manchester City.

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has suddenly found himself with a midfield injury crisis after 'bad news' ahead of a trip to Manchester City.

Farke will be without midfielder Anton Stach for the trip to the Etihad. Stach played a part in Leeds' early opener against Aston Villa last Sunday but in doing so suffered a concussion.

The German got up to challenge Emi Martinez but landed heavily and appeared to catch a stray boot to the back of the head.

Stach attempted to play on but had to come off during the first half to be replaced by Ao Tanaka.

Due to concussion protocols, Stach will only be able to get involved with team training again on Sunday.

But that's not Farke's only issue in the middle of the park or indeed elsewhere in the squad.

“It's not good news. We'll miss him for a while.”

"Overall many players in training but Anton Stach will definitely miss the game due to following the concussion protocol," said Farke on Thursday.

"If everything goes smoothly he'll just be allowed to return to team training on Sunday.

“Sadly Sean Longstaff will also miss the game, he's out with a calf injury. He suffered this in the last game, it's not good news, four to six weeks. We'll miss him for a while.

“Sebastiaan Bornauw is a doubt, has missed training with some MCL problems. We'll make a late call with him. All the others are available.”

Farke has an obvious replacement for Stach in Tanaka, who has largely shared the role of the offensive-minded number 8 with the former Hoffenheim this man in recent weeks.

But Longstaff's absence presents a new problem. Ilia Gruev can come in but is more of a deputy for deep-lying central midfielder Ethan Ampadu.
