"What he did there was disgraceful" - Former Liverpool star asks Arne Slot to drop Mohamed Salah from XI after PSV loss

Former Liverpool star Didi Hamann has urged manager Arne Slot to bench Mohamed Salah. He believes the Dutch manager will lose his job if he keeps starting the Egyptian.

Speaking on RTE Sport, Hamann said Slot is at a point in his managerial career at Liverpool where he needs to make big decisions. He urged the manager to drop the big names, including Salah, saying the Egyptian is not helping defensively and is costing the team on the pitch. He said:

"There comes a point when you’ve [got] to drop players. Even big players. Slot has a decision to make, does he get the sack with Salah or keep his job without him? What Salah did for that second PSV goal… I think Slot had one chance to take him off straight away; what he did there was disgraceful. For a player the calibre of Salah. It pains me to say… but the way he let the player go past him without doing anything to help the team."

Liverpool lost 4-1 to PSV at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, November 26. The Reds have now lost nine of their last 12 matches, dropping from first to 12th in the Premier League, while sitting 13th in the UEFA Champions League table after five matches.

Wayne Rooney urged Liverpool manager to drop Mohamed Salah

Wayne Rooney spoke on his BBC show earlier this week, claiming that he would have dropped Mohamed Salah if he were the Liverpool manager. He said that the Egyptian's failure to help out defensively and make runs up front are the key reasons why they are not doing well and said (via Sky Sports):

"If I were Slot, I'd try to make a big decision just so it has an impact on the rest of the team. Salah is not helping them defensively. If you're one of the players who they've signed and you're on the bench and you've seen him not running - and again he's a club legend and everything he's done for the club - but if you're on the bench, then what message does that send to you?"

Salah signed a new deal at Liverpool earlier this year, after his stunning performances in the 2024/25 season. He played a key role in the Reds' Premier League title win under Arne Slot, but has failed to make an impact this season.
