NFC North standings: What a Lions or Packers win would mean for the division

The Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers are set for a huge clash on Thanksgiving in Week 13.

The Lions enter the week sitting in third place in the NFC North with a 7-4 record, while the Packers are one spot ahead of them in second place with a 7-3-1 mark.

In what is one of the biggest surprises of the entire 2025 NFL season, the Chicago Bears actually sit in first place in the division with an 8-3 mark.

Chicago got there by ripping off eight wins in nine games. The Bears still have their fair share of skeptics, though, and for good reason, as they've had a relatively soft schedule this year.

With the Lions and Packers squaring off on Thursday afternoon, here's a look at the implications of a win for either team.

NFC North standings

1. Chicago Bears (8-3)

2. Green Bay Packers (7-3-1)

3. Detroit Lions (7-4)

4. Minnesota Vikings (4-7)

You can kiss the Vikings goodbye in the division.

With J.J. McCarthy playing like one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL, there's no chance Minnesota makes up that deficit.

Whoever wins Thursday's Packers-Lions clash will land in second place in the NFC North going into Friday, when the Bears take on the Philadelphia Eagles.

If the Bears lose that game, the winner of the Detroit-Green Bay contest will land in first place in the division. If Chicago emerges victorious, head coach Ben Johnson and Co. will stay atop the NFC North.

A win for the Lions would also improve their divisional record, which sits at 1-2 and is important for a potential tie-breaker scenario within the NFC North.

The Packers contributed one of those divisional losses for the Lions in Week 1, and Detroit also suffered a defeat at the hands of the Minnesota Vikings to get the other loss.

The Lions' lone NFC North victory this season came against the Bears in Week 2.

Green Bay and Detroit will kick off from Ford Field on Thursday at 1 p.m. ET.
