Brock Purdy's worst enemy looms large as 49ers travel to face Browns

Quarterback Brock Purdy is coming off an ugly three-interception game in Week 12 despite the San Francisco 49ers pulling off a 20-9 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

Despite both players and coaches expressing full support of their quarterback, Purdy might not want to get into that sort of habit again, especially with the Niners boasting a precarious hold on the final spot in the NFC playoff picture.

And things won't get easier when San Francisco travels east to face the three-win Cleveland Browns in Week 13.

Sure, Cleveland is a mess and has been for a long time. Yet it still boasts a stingy defense that ranks No. 2 in fewest yards allowed on the season (3,003), and an edge rusher like perennial All-Pro Myles Garrett is as big a threat as can possibly be.

Plus, the maturation of rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders is a wild card in itself.

But those aren't necessarily the reasons why Purdy and Co. should be worried on the short week.

Brock Purdy to face bad NFL weather when 49ers visit Browns

Deserved or not, Purdy doesn't exactly boast the best reputation for playing well in inclement weather, and fans may recall that late 2024 showdown at the Buffalo Bills in which he posted career-worst numbers amid a snowstormed loss to quarterback Josh Allen and Co.

While there is still plenty of time to pass until Week 13's kickoff at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland, Ohio, the early weather forecasts aren't exactly favorable.

For starters, it'll be cold, according to NFLweather.com, 39 degrees. And there'll be both a 55-percent chance of rain with wind gusts up to 26 miles per hour.

Tack on the below, which suggests there could be snow, and one figures Purdy's worst adversary might be fully present when the 49ers square off against the Browns on Sunday:

It wouldn't be a surprise for the Niners to vary their offensive attack, particularly with running back Christian McCaffrey being a true force of nature in his own right who has largely carried San Francisco on that side of the ball.

If Purdy is expected to drop back and pass the ball 30-plus times, it could spell trouble for the 49ers when they kick off against Cleveland on Sunday, Nov. 30 at 1 p.m. ET.
