Arsenal defender Cristhian Mosquera could change international allegiance – Would likely go to tournament

Arsenal defender Cristhian Mosquera has again avoided giving any clear indication about whether he will commit his international future to Spain or Colombia, despite growing pressure from both sides.

The comments were made to Spanish reporters at the Emirates Stadium after Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Bayern Munich, as relayed by [**Cadena Ser**](https://cadenaser.com/nacional/2025/11/27/mosquera-no-cierra-la-puerta-a-colombia-tras-unos-inicios-prometedores-con-las-inferiores-de-espana-yo-estoy-muy-tranquilo-cadena-ser/).

#### Key option for Arteta

Mosquera started the Champions League match and delivered another steady display. Arsenal view him as a long-term piece of their defensive structure, and his importance has increased since Gabriel Magalhães’ injury.

He has already accumulated minutes across the Premier League, the Champions League and the Carabao Cup, becoming Mikel Arteta’s third centre-back option.

The debate, however, remains international. Spain regard him as a rising leader in their under-21 setup, while Colombia continue to push for him and would welcome him immediately into their senior squad.

That would come with World Cup football, given Colombia have already qualified.

#### Calm about his decision

Still, Mosquera preferred to play down the noise: _“We don’t pay attention to those things. Those debates are for you and for the fans to discuss. It’s normal that people dream, but it’s November and the season is long.”_

He stressed that his progress at Arsenal is the only thing that matters right now. _“I try to train as hard as possible and be available for the manager. I think I took my chance today and showed a good version of myself,”_ he said.

When asked directly about Spain or Colombia, he again chose neutrality: _“It’s a question I get a lot, but I’m very calm. I work at my club so big opportunities arrive, and that’s the path I need to follow.”_

Spain have yet to open the door of the senior team, something Colombia would be willing to do immediately.

That dynamic leaves the situation open, and it will likely remain so until one federation makes a decisive move. For now, the defender insists that everything rests on his Arsenal form, and his next steps remain undefined.
