Lions vs. Packers: The matchup
Both the Packers and Lions are giving chase to the Chicago Bears in the NFC North in a race that should only intensify down the final stretch of the season. Green Bay has bounced back from back-to-back home losses to the Carolina Panthers (16-13) and Philadelphia Eagles (10-7) by handling the New York Giants (27-20) and Minnesota Vikings (23-6) to improve to 7-3-1 on the season. The first of those seven victories came at Lambeau Field over these Lions (27-13) in Week 1, though inconsistency showed weeks later on the road with a 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns and a 40-40 tie with the Dallas Cowboys. A big defensive effort provided the spark last week against the Vikings, as the Pack sacked quarterback J.J. McCarthy five times and gave up 52 passing yards.
The Lions play the next foe on a brutal schedule down the home stretch, where five of their final six games come against teams with .500 records or better. Detroit has navigated its schedule to a 7-4 record so far with championship-caliber peaks and a few valleys with a 3-3 mark over their past six games. Detroit rallied from a sluggish offensive performance in a Week 11 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles (16-9) with an overtime win over the New York Giants (34-27) at Ford Field, where they needed every bit of running back Jahmyr Gibbs’ 264 total yards and three touchdowns.
