Arne Slot confirmed Alisson is expected to be available for the trip to West Ham, as he also offered an update on Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike.
Liverpool’s No. 1 missed the 4-1 defeat on Wednesday due to illness, just one game after he returned from a lengthy injury, but there is good news on his availability.
“Ali trained again with the team today,” Slot confirmed. “We hope and expect him to be available at the weekend.”
It will restore a more regular and experienced presence in the backline after the Reds ended their midweek defeat with two midfielders across their back four.
Alisson has missed nine games so far this season, eight with a hamstring injury, and Liverpool could benefit from having the consistency of him starting between the sticks.
Wirtz and Ekitike injury latest
With Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong still not close to a return, Slot’s other injury updates pertained to Wirtz and Ekitike.
The former has missed the two games following the international break due to a muscle injury but has not been ruled out for Sunday’s match.
“Florian will have his final day of rehab tomorrow, so if that all goes well he could train with the team on Saturday,” Slot explained.
The German is unlikely to be in starting contention but a place on the bench is still possible if he comes through training on Saturday unscathed.
As for Ekitike, who was subbed off with a back complaint against PSV, his involvement is still to be determined, but the initial verdict is that it is not expected to be a “big issue.”
“Hugo, of course today (Thursday) was recovery, but they don’t expect that it has to be a big issue. Games come fast, so let’s see for the weekend, but it shouldn’t have to be a big issue,” Slot said.
Alexander Isak, therefore, will be expected to start on Sunday after coming off the bench in midweek.
