Arne Slot is facing mounting pressure at Anfield after Liverpool’s catastrophic slump has left the Premier League champions languishing in 12th place and their Dutch manager clinging to his job.
Mere months ago, Arne Slot appeared untouchable. The 47-year-old Dutchman had guided Liverpool to their second-ever Premier League title in his debut season.
A Bob Paisley to Klopp’s Bill Shankly.
Today, that narrative is as far away as ever.
Liverpool’s humiliating 4-1 home defeat to PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night marked their ninth loss in 12 matches—the club’s worst run of form since the 1953-54 relegation season under Don Welsh.
The capitulation at Anfield, where hundreds of supporters abandoned their seats long before the final whistle, has thrust Slot’s position into genuine jeopardy.
And if it could not get any worse for the Dutchman, Slot has had to now face the media for the third consecutive day as he spoke to the media today ahead of the clash vs West Ham on Sunday.
Predictably, Slot was once again quizzed on his position at the club and whether he spoke to Richard Hughes and Co after the defeat:
“Yeah, we had the same conversations as we’ve had since I’m here, and we fight on.”
We try to improve, that’s what we all try, but the conversations have been the same as the one-and-a-half years since I’ve been here.”
“A lot of pressure if you work at a top club, even more so if you losing more than this club is used. There is always pressure, last year it was to win the league but now it is a different pressure.”
“Maybe my job is easier because I don’t have to play. It’s hard for every player, when we go down after 5 minutes and play well first half and then we concede second half, so we get knock after knock after knock.”
“So we keep fighting. It is what we did so well last year and it is the minimum we expect over 90 minutes.”
