Arne Slot reveals fresh talks with Liverpool hierarchy amid sack calls

Arne Slot held more talks with the Liverpool hierarchy following the 4-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven, but the under-fire head coach insists they were “the same conversations.”

Slot spoke to members of the Liverpool hierarchy, including sporting director Richard Hughes, on Thursday, as he finds himself facing calls for the sack.

And speaking in his pre-West Ham press conference on Thursday, the Dutchman insisted that, as reported earlier in the day, the club retain faith in him.

“We had the same conversations as we’ve had since I’m here,” Slot told reporters.

“We fight on and we try to improve, that’s what we all try. But the conversations have been the same as they’ve been for the past one-and-a-half years.”

Arne Slot accepts pressure in Liverpool job

Slot did, however, concede he was under mounting pressure in his position as head coach – though he stressed that his job was “a little bit easier” than those on the pitch themselves.

“There’s a lot of pressure if you work or play at a top club, and even more so if you start losing more games than this club, the players and manager is used to,” he explained.

“There is always pressure. But there was a lot of pressure last season as well to win the title.

“Now it’s a different kind of pressure. What it does to me, I can only do the same – but I don’t have to play, so maybe my job is a little bit easier.

“I think it’s hard for every player if you are on a bad run of results, if you go down immediately after three minutes, play a good first half and then 10 minutes after half-time you concede again.

“We get knock after knock after knock, but that’s why I keep saying, especially when that happens, we have to keep fighting.

“That’s what we expect. The minimum I and we expect is we do this over 90 minutes.”

Liverpool are now on a run of nine losses in 12 and as of yet Slot has been unable to find long-term solutions to his side’s issues.

But the 47-year-old maintained that there were still positive moments in his side’s performances – including on Wednesday night against PSV.

“It’s quite normal if you win, lose or draw that you reflect on the game: which decisions you made, what you did during the week,” he continued.

“But maybe you do it a little bit more if you lose. You try to find and answer to win a game of football.

“It’s about doing what this club is about: keep fighting, no matter how difficult it is, we have to fight together.

“But it also would be nice if we reward ourselves in the moments we play well.

“People are very focused on the parts we don’t play well, but there are large parts of games where we do play well and we do create chances.”
