Marseille 2-1 Newcastle United post match reaction
Everton v Newcastle United: Injury news affecting Eddie Howe and David Moyes’s sides ahead of their Premier League clash at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Saturday’s match will mark Newcastle United’s first ever visit to Everton’s new stadium as they look to bounce back from a disappointing defeat against Marseille on Tuesday night. The Toffees, meanwhile, will be buoyant after they triumphed at Old Trafford, despite playing the majority of that match with ten men.
Everton have been somewhat of a bogey team for the Magpies in recent seasons, although the host won’t have a full complement of players to pick from when they welcome Howe’s side to Merseyside. Newcastle United, meanwhile, will also be without a couple of key players.
Here, we take a look at the latest injury and team news affecting both camps ahead of Everton v Newcastle United:
Everton injury and team news v Newcastle United
Idrissa Gana Gueye - out
Gueye will serve the first game of a three-match ban this weekend following his red card against Manchester United on Monday night. The Senegal international is also expected to head to the African Cup of Nations with his country and so could miss Everton’s next ten matches.
Merlin Rohl - out
Nathan Patterson - out
Foot and groin issues are expected to keep Patterson out of this weekend’s game. The 24-year-old hasn’t featured for the Toffees at all this season, with his only appearance coming in the EFL Trophy.

Jarrad Branthwaite - out
Branthwaite was not named on David Moyes’ bench on Monday night after having surgery on a hamstring injury last month.
Seamus Coleman - doubt
Coleman’s first start for Everton this season lasted just a matter of minutes before he was withdrawn through injury on Monday night. He is regarded as a major doubt to feature against Newcastle United.
Newcastle United injury news v Everton
Kieran Trippier - out
Trippier has not been named in either of Newcastle United’s last two matchday squads after suffering a hamstring injury. Howe revealed last weekend that it would be a ‘few weeks’ before the defender returns to action.
Will Osula - out
An ankle injury has kept Osula sidelined since before the international break. He hasn’t been seen in action since coming on against West Ham at the London Stadium.
Yoane Wissa - out
Wissa is closing in on making his Newcastle United debut, but the clash against Everton will come too soon for the former Brentford man. Even when he returns to the first-team fold, it is unlikely that Wissa will be rushed back into action too soon.
Emil Krafth - doubt
Krafth travelled with his teammates to Marseille on Tuesday, but was not named in Howe’s matchday squad. The Swedish international didn’t make the squad ahead of their win over Manchester City a week prior, either, because of injury. He is a doubt to feature this weekend.
