Celtic academy prospect a summer 'target' for Premier League giants

The current Premier League champions are keen on the versatile player, who is a youth captain for Scotland in his age group. Because of this, Liverpool academy officials are 'pushing' to get a deal done for the 15-year-old defender. [Daily Record]

Also interested in the academy prospect are fellow Premier League club Nottingham Forest, who were reportedly in 'advanced talks' with the player's representatives back in August.

To date, Jikiemi has made four appearances for Scotland's U15 side, scoring one time in the process.

In years gone by, Celtic have lost young players to English clubs and beyond in similar circumstances, with infamous examples coming from the likes of Ben Gannon-Doak to Liverpool, Islam Feruz to Chelsea and Bayern Munich's double swoop of Barry Hepburn and Liam Morrison.

Elsewhere, Celtic are reportedly keen on signing Irish wonderkid Michael Noonan and optimistic they can land him ahead of English Premier League giants.

Noonan, 17, has nine goals for Shamrock Rovers this season and became the youngest scorer ever in the Conference League, bagging against Molde at 16 years and 197 days.

He scored three goals in five games for the Republic of Ireland as they made it to the last 16 of the under-17s World Cup, and has since been capped at under-21s level.

Noonan is attracting the attention of a host of clubs, with both Manchester clubs keen, but the Irish Sun is reporting Celtic are confident at being at the front of the queue. Noonan is said to see a move to the Scottish champions as attractive.
