'Not nice to watch': Jamie Carragher claims one Liverpool player has been so bad he doesn’t even want to speak about it

A number of Liverpool players were abject during the 4-1 defeat to PSV in the Champions League this week.

Cody Gakpo struggled off the left wing and missed a huge opportunity when the Reds still had a chance to get back into the game.

Virgil van Dijk’s handball for the penalty was bizarre and summed up the Dutchman’s display perfectly.

Jamie Carragher slams Ibrahima Konate after Liverpool vs PSV

Konate was taken off after 76 minutes with Liverpool chasing the game.

Jamie Carragher has since commented on the Frenchman during CBS’s coverage of the tie, and his verdict was worrying.

He said: “I mean Konate. Listen, it gets to the stage now where you actually feel you shouldn’t criticise him.

“Because you feel, you’re watching something that’s not nice to watch when a player is going through something like this. I never thought he was top class, but he’s going through a nightmare.”

Wednesday was not the first time Konate has been poor for the Reds this season, with his showing against Nottingham Forest also woeful.

Yet, there remains a chance that the stopper could actually sign a new contract at Anfield.

How Liverpool are feeling about Ibrahima Konate’s contract extension

The 26-year-old’s current deal on Merseyside is due to expire at the end of June 2026.

That means clubs outside of England can sign him to a pre-contract deal as early as January.

Rousing The Kop shared a Konate contract update last week via transfer insider, Graeme Bailey.

He said: “I am told that Liverpool feel talks between them and Konate’s camp, that have taken place in the last week, have gone.

“Liverpool remain ‘hopeful’ that Konate will sign a new deal, and I am also led to believe that Konate’s people assured Liverpool that they have not agreed terms with any other club.

“Liverpool are making a big push to get him tied down in the next six weeks ahead of January.”
