Leeds United is reportedly considering parting ways with manager Daniel Farke as the club’s hierarchy assesses how to maintain their Premier League status.
The West Yorkshire club finds itself in a precarious position following a dismal run of form that has seen them slip into the relegation zone.
Sunday’s 2-1 home defeat to Aston Villa left Leeds 18th in the table with just 11 points.
Farke, who guided Leeds to the Championship title last season, is now fighting for his professional life at Elland Road.
Despite the German’s success in securing promotion, the step up to the Premier League has predictably proven difficult.
The Whites have won just one of their last six matches, a slump that has eroded the board’s confidence in Farke’s ability to keep the club up.
While Farke retains the support of some within the dressing room, the club’s owners are wary of repeating the mistakes of the 2021/22 season and are prepared to be ruthless to protect their Premier League investment.
In a bid to arrest the slide, Leeds have reportedly identified high-profile successors with Premier League experience.
According to a report from talkSPORT, former Liverpool and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers and former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou are the leading contenders for the job should Farke be dismissed.
The report details that Rodgers is viewed as the club’s “No. 1 target”.
The Northern Irishman is currently a free agent after resigning from Celtic in October 2025.
An interesting detail is that Leeds are owned by 49ers Enterprises, who also hold a majority stake in the consortium that controls Celtic’s fiercest rivals, Rangers.
talkSPORT correspondennt Alex Crook said of the situation:
“We reached out to people at Leeds last night and we were told it was very much business as usual.”
“Their press conference will go ahead as planned. But I think there is some substance to reports that Farke’s position is under threat.”
“In the aftermath of promotion last season, there was a story on the back page of one of the papers that even at that stage, the Leeds hierarchy were considering a change of manager.”
“I went to the club and was told we’ve got nothing to say on this. So that was hardly coming out and backing their manager. Ultimately, he did end up staying.”
