'Unfortunately...' - Liverpool insider drops Arne Slot sack hint after heavy loss to PSV

Arne Slot’s role at Liverpool is ‘untenable’ following their shock 4-1 loss to PSV in the Champions League, a club insider has revealed.

The Dutch tactician could reportedly be facing the sack after overseeing Liverpool’s worst run of results in 70 years, with the reigning Premier League champions losing nine of their last 12 games across all competitions.

Slot only joined Liverpool last summer, replacing Jurgen Klopp, and led the Merseysiders to their second-ever Premier League title in his first season in charge.

Liverpool are 12th in the Premier League after 12 games and 13th in the Champions League five matches into their continental campaign.

Liverpool insider Red Memorabilia - renowned for sharing early team news ahead of matches - issued a hint regarding Slot’s potential Anfield departure, saying on X that the Dutchman’s role is ‘untenable’:

As Slot is under contract until the summer of 2027, sacking him could cost the club in excess of £10m, with the 47-year-old earning a reported £6.6m per year excluding bonuses.

Asked whether he was concerned about his Liverpool future following the 4-1 defeat to PSV on Wednesday night, Slot said:

"I'm not worried. My focus is on other things than worrying about my own position. I try to analyse, try to help the players as much as I can, and it's obvious that I don't do it in the way I did that last season."

Wednesday’s loss to PSV meant that Liverpool have suffered nine defeats in 12 games for the first time since the 1953–54 season, which culminated in relegation from the First Division.

The Reds have also lost three successive games – against PSV, Nottingham Forest and Manchester City – by three goals or more for the first time since December 1953.

After starting the Premier League campaign with five straight wins, Liverpool now find themselves 11 points behind leaders Arsenal and just seven off the bottom three.

Slot’s side next face West Ham on Sunday, who are unbeaten in their last three games under head coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

With their £415m summer spending initially proving not enough to contest for titles, Liverpool could be on the lookout for further squad reinforcements in January.

According to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are among clubs interested in Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, who could be available for £65m at the turn of the year.
