Nagelsmann Rumours Addressed As Trusted Journalist Reveals What He's Heard On Liverpool Manager Situation

Liverpool are not lining up Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann to replace Arne Slot, according to the Daily Mail ‘s Dominic King.

The journalist is one of the most reliable when it comes to the Reds, and he has described rumours that the former RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich boss could succeed Slot as “nonsense”.

It was suggested that preliminary work was underway to determine whether Nagelsmann would be willing to take the reins after next summer’s World Cup.

However, King has emphatically said that the 38-year-old won’t be considered for the job “at any point”. He did not even make the shortlist when the club were looking for successors for Jurgen Klopp.

Slot needs results

While the Liverpool board are said to be fully behind the Dutchman at the moment, 8 defeats in 11 matches is an unprecedented run.

Slot himself has described recent results as both “unbelievable” and “not acceptable”, but he needs to get a grip of things on the pitch so it doesn’t spiral out of control even further.

He has already emphasised the need to tighten up defensively, especially at set-pieces. That is an obvious issue. The 20 goals conceded in the first 12 league games is the most since the 1992/93 season. The Reds ended up finishing 6th that campaign.

Liverpool’s next five matches

After the Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven, Slot’s men take on West Ham at the London Stadium before hosting Sunderland at Anfield.

They then have two away fixtures against Leeds and Inter Milan. On paper, it isn’t the worst run of games, but as we saw versus Nottingham Forest, nothing is guaranteed at the moment.

Slot needs to rediscover what worked for him during his first 12 months at the club. Otherwise, speculation about his future will begin to mount.
