Muscular issue rules Manchester City midfielder Lohmann out of international duty

Manchester City midfielder Sydney Lohmann will not feature for the German national team in the current international window with the player having sustained a muscular injury.

The German Football Association, the DFB, announced the news via a post on their official X account this afternoon.

The 25-year-old midfielder was named in head coach Christian Wück’s 23-player squad for Germany’s UEFA Women’s Nations League final double-header with Spain, however, Lohmann has picked up what is thought to be a minor muscular injury. She is now expected to return to Manchester City for assessment and treatment after watching tomorrow night’s first leg at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion in Kaiserslautern.

Lonmann’s Manchester City teammate Rebecca Knaak remains in the German squad and she is likely to feature as her country contest their first-ever UEFA Women’s Nations League final. Germany ended the 2024 UEFA Women’s Nations League in third place while latest opponents Spain were the inaugural winners of the tournament. DFB Women will want to upset the odds this time around and make history by winning the tournament.

The UEFA Women’s Nations League final, first leg kicks-off at 7.30pm tomorrow night. Germany travel to Madrid to contest the second leg on Tuesday evening.

Gute Besserung euch beiden! 🖤❤️💛 pic.twitter.com/0ZIchI6mhB
