Liverpool among 5 huge clubs who could trigger move for "top striker" compared to Haaland

Liverpool are one of five “top clubs” who could potentially trigger Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy’s release clause in 2026, according to a new transfer claim.

The Reds have struggled all over the pitch this season, with the defence all at sea, the midfield too easy to run through and too many attacking players failing to fire.

Granted, Hugo Ekitike has been a rare positive out of Liverpool’s summer signings, but Alexander Isak is a shadow of the world-class striker at Newcastle United, still struggling for form and fitness.

The Premier League champions may have spent big on attacking additions, but a new report suggests that another prolific signing could be on the cards.

According to Bild [via Sport Witness], Liverpool are among the clubs who have the best chance of triggering Guirassy’s release clause at Dortmund.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are the other teams mentioned in the report, with the Premier League quintet potentially keen on making a move for him.

A January move appears to be highly unlikely, but things could get “more interesting” next summer for the 29-year-old, who has a “clear plan” in his mind.

Do Liverpool really need to sign Guirassy?

Guirassy is an impressive striker who has scored 47 goals in just 67 appearances for Dortmund, as well as being spoken of in the same breath as Erling Haaland and Harry Kane by Niko Kovac:

“I’ve used the term ‘life insurance’ several times myself. Serhou is a very important player for us. Someone who scores goals – even in impossible situations. He was under pressure for the first goal, was saved, and yet he still scored. Top striker! Bayern has Kane, City has Haaland and we have Guirassy.”

That said, Guirassy is now 29 years of age, and Liverpool have Isak and Ekitike in their ranks, so it would be a shock if they looked to sign him in 2026.

That’s not to say that the 26-cap and 10-goal Guinea international wouldn’t score goals at a good rate for Liverpool, but it is hard to see the sense of triggering his release clause, with a move to one of their rivals arguably feeling more likely.
