Liverpool may now put off sacking Arne Slot for one key reason - journalist

Liverpool have fallen to nine defeats in their last 12 matches across all competitions under Arne Slot.

The Reds were beaten 4-1 by PSV in a Champions League meeting on Wednesday, seeing questions raised over the manager’s future yet again.

Slot has commented on losing his job this week, but did not seem overly worried that it would happen soon.

Jamie Carragher is still backing the Liverpool boss for the time being as well, while an insight into the situation at Anfield has now been shared.

Why Liverpool may not sack Arne Slot yet

Speaking to Sports Mole, journalist David Lynch has explained why the Merseyside outfit would prefer to wait before parting ways with the 47-year-old.

He said: “Again, one of the reasons Liverpool would prefer to wait is because the better time to kind of appoint managers is probably to do it in the summer rather than do it mid-season and the availability of certain candidates.

“I mean, I know Julian Nagelsmann has been mentioned as a potential and you know, I would expect that he won’t be available until the other side of the World Cup.

“So to get an interim in would actually make sense. I mean, we’re not there yet.”

Previous reports have suggested that Nagelsmann isn’t in Liverpool’s thinking right now.

But there are plenty of other managers out of work who could fill the void until the end of 2025/26.

Free agent managers available to Liverpool

Former FC Barcelona coach Xavi has been without a club since the summer of 2024.

Edin Terzic, who took Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final in 2023/24, is available.

Another potential option could be to hand Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard the role until the close of the current campaign if Slot is dismissed.

Gerrard has previous Premier League experience with Aston Villa, last working in management for Al-Ettifaq.
