It appears Arizona Cardinals running back Trey Benson has taken a step in the wrong direction in his return from a knee injury.
According to Zach Gershman of AZCardinals.com, Benson did not take part in practice on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday.
"Trey Benson did not practice on Thursday. The Cardinals running back had been dealing with a knee injury," Gershman wrote.
Of course, at this stage you would expect Benson to be making progress in his recovery, not going backward.
This amounts to the latter and it's obviously terrible news for his chances of returning to the field in Week 13.
Benson has been on injured reserve since he suffered a knee injury in Week 4. He was designated to return from the list last week but ultimately wasn't activated.
But there was obviously new hope that he would be able to make it back this week. Now, we have to question if that will happen after this latest development.
It has been a rough season for the Cardinals at running back. On top of the injury to Benson, the Cardinals have lost James Conner for the season and now Emari Demercado is banged-up.
If Benson doesn't return in Week 13, it'll be another heavy workload for Bam Knight and Michael Carter will spell him.
