For a regular season NFL game, it may not get bigger than the second matchup on the league's 2025 Thanksgiving slate.
The defending AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs will travel to face the Dallas Cowboys on Turkey Day, which won't just be a meeting between two of the NFL's most well-known franchises — it will also be a game between two teams scrapping to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The Chiefs have had one of their worst starts ever under Andy Reid in 2025, yet still find themselves 6-5 and in wild card contention. Last week's overtime win over the Colts helped, but Patrick Mahomes has had to do a lot of heavy lifting this season. For the first time in what feels like ages, there is a real chance that Kansas City misses the postseason if it can't close its schedule on a high note.
As for the Cowboys, they're 5-5-1 so far and have won two-straight and now appear more formidable as a playoff threat thanks to defensive trade deadline acquisitions Quinnen Williams and Logan Wilson. A Week 12 comeback win over the Philadelphia Eagles helped prove that with Dak Prescott having a terrific season and Dallas' offense cruising.
The winner of the Thanksgiving contest will slightly boost their playoff chances in their respective conference. The loser will fall more in peril of suffering a lost season, despite one of the league's most talented rosters. Will Mahomes and the Chiefs or Prescott and the Cowboys win the holiday matchup?
