Eric Garcia has been one of FC Barcelona’s most reliable and consistent performers this season, delivering almost every time he is on the pitch, irrespective of the position he has been deployed.
Given his value to the team, Hansi Flick and Barça have been working hard to renew his contract, which stands to expire at the end of the ongoing season.
Agreement in principle reached
Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona and Eric have reached a preliminary agreement in principle after weeks of negotiations.
The 24-year-old defender had an offer on the table from PSG, but has chosen to remain at Barça, his home, where he feels fully happy within the group.
Furthermore, the report states that the Blaugrana consider him an essential part of the team and even see him as a potential future captain.
It just goes on to show how highly Flick and Barcelona rate Garcia, who has had to fight hard for his place in the team.

The former Manchester City star spent a year on loan at Girona and almost left the club in January, before the manager convinced him to stay.
Since then, the Spaniard has only gone from strength to strength. The 24-year-old is the player with the most minutes in the squad, and his versatility is highly valued.
As such, within the club, he is viewed as a potential future captain, and the coach has made it clear that he does not want to lose him under any circumstances.
Garcia, for his part, feels very comfortable in the dressing room, with many players from La Masia and others he knows from the national team. Hence, he has always been inclined to sign a new contract.
As per the report, the renewal, which will see him sign until 2030, is now entering the phase of formalising the agreement. An announcement might not be far away.
