Roanoke’s Zach Horton activated for first career NFL game against Packers

DETROIT, Va. (WDBJ) - [Zach Horton](https://www.detroitlions.com/team/players-roster/zach-horton/), an athlete from Roanoke, was [elevated](https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/football/news/lions-zach-horton-elevated-as-depth-option/) from the practice squad and is expected to play in his first NFL game against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, November 27, 2025, according to the Detroit Lions.

Born in Roanoke, Horton attended Northvale and Lord Botetourt High Schools in Daleville where he was rated as a three-star prospect by 247sports, according to the Lions.

Horton played tight end at James Madison University for three seasons from 2021-2023 and made First-Team All-Sun Belt with a career total of 40 receptions for 434 yards receiving and eight touchdowns receiving.

Horton transferred to Indiana University and was a breakout player with an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2024. He compiled 21 receptions for 189 yards receiving and four touchdowns.

He joined the Detroit Lions franchise as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL Draft.

He was promoted to the active roster on Wednesday, November 26.
