However, while Slot must shoulder a lot of blame for the dire displays we have been subject to this season, one decision made by Richard Hughes has not helped at all.
Arne Slot wanted to keep Luis Diaz
A report from Caught Offside this week has claimed that Slot wanted to keep Luis Diaz at Anfield this summer.
However, sporting director Hughes is said to have overruled the Liverpool boss and sanctioned the winger’s sale to Bayern Munich.
It’s a decision that, with the benefit of hindsight at least, was monumentally bad. Diaz has been called a huge miss for the Reds, and it’s hard to argue.

One of the many problem areas at Anfield this season has been the left-wing position.
Cody Gakpo is out of form, and for whatever reason, Slot doesn’t like starting Federico Chiesa.

Gakpo has nowhere near the same ability as Diaz when it comes to running at backlines and getting in behind.
Instead, the Dutchman constantly cuts inside and ignores his left-back partner, something Slot has called him out for already this season.
Meanwhile, Diaz is playing some of his best-ever football on the books of Bayern Munich.

Luis Diaz stats vs Liverpool forwards
At Bayern, the Colombian has already scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 18 matches across all competitions.
No Liverpool player, even their strikers, come close to matching the 28-year-old’s goal tally this term.
Hugo Ekitike is their top scorer, sitting on six in 18, but he has not found the back of the net in the league since September 20.
Behind him, Salah has five goals and three assists, Gakpo four goals and three assists, and Chiesa has a total of five contributions.
