Lions' Jack Campbell Is Making a Case for NFL's Best Lb

It's hard to deny Jack Campbell's impact on the game of football. The former first-round pick out of Iowa has been everything the Detroit Lions need this season. He's a tough out in the passing game, he's a solid pass-rusher, and _Pro Football Focus_ has Campbell as the top-rated linebacker against the run.

As of Week 12, Campbell is at a whopping 93.5 grade against the run, which his tops in the league, [according to _PFF_](https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/jack-campbell/101515). Not only is that the case, but Campbell is rated second overall in linebackers with a PFF score of 90.0. The only linebacker with a better grade is Fred Warner, of the San Francisco 49ers, who has played half of the number of snaps that Campbell has due to injury. With Warner having played in only about half of the number of snaps that Campbell has this season, it's fair to argue that Campbell, not Warner, is the top-rated, all-around linebacker in the league today.

Jack Campbell's Breakout Can't Be Ignored

-----------------------------------------

His metrics are great, his raw stats are even better. Campbell currently sits third in the league in total tackles with 108, while sitting second among linebackers in forced fumbles and first in pure linebackers with sacks (four). His impressive play has helped the Lions land as the 11th-best team in the league against the run and 10th overall against opposing teams' offenses.

What's even more impressive about Campbell isn't his game-breaking ability to get to a ball-carrier, regardless of his position, but he's also proven to make very few mistakes. Campbell ranks just 26th among all linebackers with six missed tackles. Considering that only 12 linebackers have more snaps than Campbell, it's fair to say that the man hardly misses.

Campbell's overall impact on the team can't be denied, especially when looking at some of the issues he's helping cover for. The Lions' front four isn't great. Aidan Hutchinson is next world, but the rest of the defensive line remains unimpressive, if not downright rotten. Cornerback has been another problem area for the Lions' defense, and while Rock Ya-Sin and D.J. Reed are starting to come around nicely, the struggles they faced at the position all year can't be denied.

Sadly, due to the overblown love affair that voters have for sacks, Campbell likely won't win the Defensive Player of the Year this season, even though he deserves some consideration. Still, Lions fans won't be surprised if Campbell uses any voter-related disrespect as fuel to have an even better performance in 2026.
