Arsenal could sign in-form striker for £44m due to clause, 47 goals since last season - report

Arsenal extended their unbeaten run to 16 games after a convincing 3-1 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have moved to the top of the league phase of the competition as a result, and they are on the cusp of securing a round of 16 berth.

Arsenal were particularly keen to add quality and depth to the squad through summer signings, and several of them featured against Bayern.

Cristhian Mosquera started in the heart of the defence alongside William Saliba, while Eberechi Eze and Martin Zubimendi featured in midfield.

Noni Madueke made a big difference off the bench, scoring his maiden goal for the Gunners.

Arsenal will no doubt add more quality in future transfer windows, and BILD have today linked Serhou Guirassy with a possible move to the club.

The German outlet claim that the Borussia Dortmund striker has a £44 million release clause, which is exclusively limited to ‘top clubs’ in Europe.

Arsenal are one of the elite European clubs eligible to trigger the special buy-out clause, along with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.

The clause will be active during the January transfer window, but Guirassy is prepared to wait until the summer before considering a bigger challenge.

Arsenal unlikely to enter Guirassy pursuit

The Gunners made a huge outlay to land Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP last summer, and he has already netted six times from 14 appearances.

Alongside the Swede, the Gunners have Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Mikel Merino, who can operate in the number nine role for manager Mikel Arteta.

Gyokeres, Havertz and Jesus are on the sidelines but they are expected to return soon. Gyokeres and Havertz could be fit in time to face Chelsea this weekend.

Jesus could make his long-awaited comeback from a knee injury next month. There is a possibility that the Brazilian could depart in the summer, but Arsenal may still not pursue a deal for Guirassy.

Guirassy has been a revelation for Dortmund with 47 goals scored since last season including 16 in the Champions League. However, he will turn 30 in March and could be past his prime in the next few years.

The Gunners may prefer to recruit a younger and more versatile profile. It has recently been claimed that they could negotiate a transfer for Levante’s Etta Eyong.
