Tom Brady said Jared Goff did something he never would

The Detroit Lions' NFC North division title odds took a massive hit on Thanksgiving, as the good guys fell to the Green Bay Packers at home, dropping them to 7-5 on the year and 0-2 against the Packers in 2025. It wasn't a good day for the Lions but it wasn't all doom and gloom.

On 3rd-and-4 on the Packers' 10-yard line with Detroit trailing by 10 points in the fourth quarter, Jared Goff did something that Tom Brady, who was up in the booth calling the game on FOX, said he'd never do. Some might hear that context and think that Brady was insulting Goff but no, he was commending the quarterback for making a throw that Brady said he wouldn't have had the cajones to pull off.

The play we're talking about here is when Goff threw the ball to running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who took the pass six yards, good enough for the first down. Brady couldn't believe how that play went down but in a good way.

“A running back on a corner, on a quick out… I would throw that 0 percent of the time… but when you have Jahmyr Gibbs?” Brady said on the broadcast.

Tom Brady applauded Jared Goff for throwing a pass he never would have

That play by Goff and Gibbs showed how crazy good this offense can be when everything is clicking for them and Brady was absolutely in shock by how that play went down. To hear a future Hall of Fame quarterback saying he wouldn't make that throw is beyond complimentary of Goff and Gibbs and how the two work together.

Unfortunately, the next three plays after that first down conversion by Gibbs resulted in two incompletions and a sack on Goff, which led to a Lions field goal. Ultimately, that wild throw and catch wasn't enough to turn the tides and the Lions would lose the game by seven points.

Even with the loss though, at least Goff can say he's done something Brady never had the confidence to do and hey, that's a pretty big notch on the belt.
