HINGHAM — After a 37-7 drubbing last season on Thanksgiving, Hingham junior J.T. Reale cherished a chance at revenge.

Reale rode that revenge to over 150 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns on his way to team MVP honors as the Harbormen dominated Scituate this time around, 50-0.

“It’s good to get one last game in with my teammates, I’ve been playing with them since fifth grade. We wanted a little bit of revenge [after last year],” Reale said. “It’s great to go out with one last win for the seniors and cherish this moment with everyone.”

“It feels great. You want to win the last time out,” Hingham coach TJ Byrne said. “You want to get them to the point that they come out on Thanksgiving and play hard, play physical. They responded like they have all year.”

Jake Varholak got the Harbormen (8-3) on the board first with a quarterback keeper, and Hingham rolled the rest of the way against the defending Division 4 state champions.

After Varholak’s second 3-yard score in the second quarter, a 22-point third turned the game into a blowout in a blink, as Reale added a second touchdown on a pass play, Riley Bello found the end zone, and Teddy Anderson took back a scoop-and-score.

“[Varholak] made a difference today, and he was able to find us left and right,” Reale said of his quarterback.

Varholak, a captain, had two the two rushing scores and the passing one in his final high school game.

“It means a lot. You see these kids when they come in as sophomores, as kids, and they grow up so much over the years,” Byrne added. “Our seniors have put in so much work for this program, and in the end, Thanksgiving was a shutout and a big win.”

Despite playing in the Div. 4 Super Bowl on Dec. 6, Scituate played its usual starters until late in the third quarter when Hingham went up 35-0.

“Scituate still comes in here and plays on Thanksgiving,” Byrne said. “If we find ourselves in their situation, we’re going to do the same. As difficult as that position is, these kids play football for a short time in their life. These seniors earned everything today.”
