Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is updating the Motor City about the status of injured wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
The Detroit Lions lost to the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving at Ford Field, and if that wasn’t bad enough, the team also lose their star wide receiver Amon-Ra St Brown to an injury. St. Brown went down after having his leg rolled from behind, during an instance with fellow Lions player Jahmyr Gibbs.
After the incident, St. Brown remained on the ground and was quickly taken back to the locker room. So, he was out for the entire game, although at first, the Detroit Lions’ PR took to X to say that St. Brown was “questionable” to return to the game and was dealing with an ankle injury. That gave fans some hope that he would return, but he didn’t.
Now, following the game, head coach Dan Campbell has updated the Motor City about the status of St. Brown and his injury. While it’s not the best news, it’s also not horrible, and Campbell is being honest about where St. Brown stands with the team.
Detroit Lions Coach Dan Campbell Talks Amon-Ra St. Brown
Following the game, Campbell said that he doesn’t think the injury will be long-term, but it may hold the wide receiver out for at least a few games.
“’ll know more tomorrow. I don’t feel like this is long, long-term. So that’s the good news, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be here for—could be a week or two, maybe, if we’re lucky,” Campbell said. So, let’s hope the Lions are lucky, because they’re staring at the playoffs from a very far place right now.
St. Brown is MVP-level player, and losing him is a significant hit to the Detroit Lions. Last weekend, against the New York Giants, St. Brown hit 500-career receptions in just 77-career games, which shows his worth. It was the second-fewest games needed to accumulate 500 receptions in NFL history.
After the Lions announced that St. Brown was out for the whole game, followers reacted. “To be fair, I wouldn’t want to come back out either,” one said on X. “This franchise cannot buy a break despite a lot of regular season success the last few years,” another said. “Praying he can bounce back,” another noted.
Dan Campbell Talks Detroit Lions Loss
“Like I told the team, it’s frustrating, I know. We got a lot to be thankful for even after a loss,” Campbell stated in his postgame press conference. “Look, we dug ourselves in a little bit of a hole, that’s the bottom line. We are in a little bit of a hole.”
He added, “All we have to do is worry about cleaning up this and getting to the next game and finding a way to win the next one in front of us. That will be after this day or two here that they’ll get off, that’s what the focus will be.”
As for those fourth-down plays, Campbell says he’ll still call them that way. “You always want to convert them, and we had a lot of conversions here. It just didn’t work out today,” he said.
