Anthony Gordon dropped, Nick Pope decision: Newcastle United starting XI v Everton - predicted

The Magpies lost 2-1 to Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday, with goalkeeper Nick Pope coming in for major criticism from supporters.

Harvey Barnes gave United the lead after six minutes but it was Pope who allowed the French side to equalise after his bizarre decision to come racing off his line saw Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang shoot into an empty net.

It was a moment of madness that changed the flow of the game and Aubameyang went on to add a second a few minutes later.

Both Eddie Howe and Bruno Guimaraes came to Pope’s defence after the game, but that has done little to silence calls from fans to see Aaron Ramsdale given a chance in between the sticks.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper joined the Magpies on loan with a £20million option to buy from Southampton in the summer but has been restricted to just two starts.

Here’s how Newcastle United are predicted to line-up against Everton:

Pope’s mistake against Marseille has led to loud calls from supporters to play Aaron Ramsdale but if history is anything to by, then Howe will likely stick by his under-fire goalkeeper.

Burn has played at left-back in Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento’s absence. Now the pair are back, it’s only right Birn is used in his correct position.
