Liverpool's owners have Luis Enrique listed as their top managerial target should they choose to move on from Arne Slot.

The Dutchman is under huge pressure having overseen nine losses in the club's last 12 games. Slot claimed Premier League glory last season at the first time of asking, but has found things much more challenging in his second campaign with pressure mounting.

Slot maintains he still has the backing of American owners, but they are planning for a worst and have the PSG boss as the man they would want to fill the hotseat long-term. The Spaniard has performed wonders in Paris and led the French club to their first ever Champions League success last term.

That was part of a treble-winning season, which was the second time Enrique had achieved the feat. He also did so in 2015 when he was in charge at Barcelona, where he also won the Champions League as part of the treble.

Incredibly, Liverpool could look to Jurgen Klopp to fill the managerial gig on a short-term basis if they do axe Slot. The German, now Global Head of Soccer for Red Bull, would likely only be asked to fill in until the end of the season with Enrique unlikely to leave mid-term.

Slot claims he's remained in dialogue with the club's chiefs during the nightmare spell of results - which has arguably reached new depths this week. They were stunned at Anfield by Nottingham Forest on Saturday, losing 3-0, and things got worse on Wednesday with a 4-1 Champions League humbling at home to PSV.

The Sun claims conversations have also taken place among Liverpool executives who are growing concerned that he is losing the dressing room. Slot spend a staggering £426million on players in the summer but has failed to find a winning formula of settle on an XI.

The Liverpool boss accepts, given the results they've posted, that talk will turn to him and his future but is confident those above him believe he can turn it round. His future may hinge on the club's upcoming games with West Ham, Sunderland and Leeds to come.

The Dutchman said: “It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory. But if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked. If you lose so many times, people start talking about that. I have got a lot of support from above. I am OK with my position. They don’t call every single minute of the day to say they trust me, but in the normal conversations we have, I feel the trust.”
