Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has responded to criticism he and the team have received this season. He acknowledged that it is a tough moment, but expressed gratitude for the fans who support them.
The Reds are going through a terrible form, having lost nine of their last 12 games across competitions. They have also lost their last three games, conceding at least three goals in all of them. They lost 4-1 against PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League at Anfield on Wednesday, November 26.
Konate was at fault for one of PSV's goals as he missed the ball completely. He has also faced criticism for his general performances this season, which have been disappointing. Amidst this, the Liverpool star shared a post on his Instagram on Thursday, writing:
"We have to take this moment on the chest. Criticism is part of football, and we’ll fight back every time and come through this storm. In these moments, the fans matter most. The ones who stand with us in the good times and the bad - the ones who sing for us even in the difficult moments! Your voice and your support mean everything to us. We know we need to improve and we’ll keep fighting for you. Always. ❤️❤️"
Konate has made 150 appearances for Liverpool since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2021. His contract, notably, expires next summer.
Jamie Carragher slams Arne Slot for picking Ibrahima Konate in Liverpool's defeat against PSV
Jamie Carragher's reaction to the goals in Liverpool's 4-1 defeat against PSV Eindhoven have been going viral on social media. The former defender was on punditry duty for CBS Sports as he watched the match. He was particularly disappointed with Ibrahima Konate's error, which led to PSV's third goal.
In the video, Carragher said:
"Oh my God, Konate. Oh my God, Konate. Watch Konate, here. Oh my God. I've f*****g had enough of them, honest to God, that Konate. I mean, that's a sackable offence for the manager, he keeps picking him. He should be sacked for that."
Konate completely misjudged an aerial ball in the second half, which led to Couhaib Driouech's first goal of the game and PSV's third. Driouech then scored in stoppage time to complete his brace.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are now 13th in the Champions League standings, one point behind the Top 8. They will next face West Ham United at the London Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday, November 30.
