Premier League third kits ranked with Liverpool 4th and Everton go adventurous

Ahead of the 2025/26 season we rank all 20 Premier League clubs' third kits from best to worst, with some beauties and some absolute howlers

Liverpool may be struggling domestically but one thing they always seem to get right is their annual kit releases. From their iconic red home kit to the unusual designs for the away strips, there always seems to be at least one standout every season.

Everton have also released some belters over the years, with collaborations from Le Coq Sportif to Umbro and Puma. They are performing better than the Reds in recent times and their home kit is always that iconic blue base with various designs for the away strips.

But what about those forgotten third kits that Premier League teams release and rarely wear? Liverpool and Everton's alternative kit for this season are both unforgettable.

Here, the ECHO has ranked all of the Premier League's 2025/26 third kits.

20th - Manchester City

The City third kit was designed with Manchester's infamous weather in mind. With a neon trim and unusual rain droplet design, this shirt has been heavily criticised by both fans and rivals.

The brightness of the neon combined with the dreary grey rain backdrop has landed City at the bottom of the table - a position they are certainly not accustomed to in recent years.

19th - Brentford

The Bees' third kit features a bright blue background with a brown and pink stripe across the chest of the top. The club's badge is centred in the middle of the chest with just a small brown and pink trim at the collar of the shirt.

While the club's original colours are featured in this rare shirt, the placement of said hues do nothing to flatter the wearer and are rather mismatched across the entire design.

18th - Brighton

Brighton had the clever idea to curb the overconsumption of football merchandise by using last season's away kit as this year's third kit.

The away kit, which has been seen numerous times over the past year, features a yellow design with black vertical stripes and the club's badge prominently displayed on the chest.

Although not unattractive, this kit is not new from last season, hence its low ranking.

17th - Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham third kit.

View 21 Images

Tottenham's third kit for this season pays tribute to the 1982 FA Cup winning team, boasting a vibrant yellow base with blue detailing around the chest and shoulders for a retro feel.

However, the vintage design is paired with new sponsors and a disappearing neckline, along with an unexpected blue block of colour on the back, making it seem like a poor attempt at an old classic.

16th - Bournemouth

View 21 Images

Bournemouth's 2025/26 third kit is a pastel pink number with purple accents. Pink kits have been associated with success in the Cherries' recent history.

They famously defeated teams like Newcastle and Crystal Palace away in the 2015/16 season to remain in the Premier League as fellow Championship hoppers Leicester City won the title that same year.

Its relatively basic design prevents it from ranking higher on the list.

15th - West Ham United

West Ham United's Callum Wilson during the Premier League match between Sunderland and West Ham United at Stadium of Light on August 16, 2025 in Sunderland, England.

West Ham changed their club's badge

View 21 Images

West Ham's alternative kit offers a fresh take on a fairly plain classic. The badge is enlarged and only features the two famous hammers that are synonymous with the club.

Aside from this unique feature, the rest of the shirt is fairly standard, with gold accents and a split collar.

14th - Newcastle

Newcastle United's Nick Woltemade during the Premier League match between Brentford and Newcastle United at Gtech Community Stadium on November 9, 2025 in Brentford, England.

Newcastle's kit is also a throwback

View 21 Images

Newcastle's kit harks back to their European escapades in the late 1990s. The strip, featuring a navy blue base with orange highlights, draws inspiration from their 1997 Champions League season.

This season saw memorable victories such as a 3-2 win against Barcelona and a 2-0 triumph over Dynamo Kyiv. However, it's not particularly extraordinary, hence its mid-table position on this list.

13th - Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest third kit.

Nottingham Forest have gone back to basics

View 21 Images

Nottingham Forest have embraced the Adidas trend of slim bars down the sides of the kit, evoking memories of iconic strips from the 90s. This third shirt sports a navy blue and black design with red hems, creating a smart colour contrast.

However, like many mid-table kits, it's not exactly a showstopper.

12th - Everton

View 21 Images

Everton took a more unconventional approach with their third kit design, which stands out among the rest - but not necessarily for the right reasons. The black base features yellow and blue zigzag patterns running horizontally across the entire top, inspired by the areas surrounding the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

While it's commendable that the Toffees have been more adventurous with their third kit design, the choices made leave much to be desired.

11th - Leeds United

Sean Longstaff of Leeds United during the Premier League match between Brighton & Hove Albion and Leeds United at Amex Stadium on November 01, 2025 in Brighton, England.

Leeds United have also done something unique

View 21 Images

Leeds United have certainly gone all in with their alternative strip. The blue, yellow and black design, crafted by Adidas, is said to reflect the vibrant home support at Elland Road.

It gives off more of a rave or DJ vibe than a football strip, but kudos must be given for the creativity of the design.

£45.50 - BUY IT HERE.

10th - Crystal Palace

Ismaila Sarr of Crystal Palace celebrates scoring his team's second goal with teammates during the Carabao Cup Fourth Round match between Liverpool and Crystal Palace at Anfield on October 29, 2025 in Liverpool, England.

Crystal Palace's third kit is traditional but clean

View 21 Images

FA Cup victors Crystal Palace have returned to basics with their third strip, which is unfortunate not to rank higher on this list. The red and blue stripe straight down the centre, paired with one red and one blue sleeve topper, is visually pleasing and a trendy choice.

The only thing that detracts from this kit is the number of sponsors on the sleeves and front of the shirt, which spoil the look. A version without sponsors would climb about five places in this list alone.

9th - Aston Villa

Emiliano Buendia of Aston Villa reacts after missing a penalty kick during the UEFA Europa League 2025/26 League Phase MD3 match between Go Ahead Eagles and Aston Villa FC at Stadion De Adelaarshorst on October 23, 2025 in Deventer, Netherlands.

Aston Villa's third kit is inspired by stained glass windows

View 21 Images

Aston Villa's alternative kit has hints of the Japan cherry blossom jersey. The shirt is said to be inspired by stained glass windows and features a white base with shades of blue and purple across the shoulders.

The long-sleeved version is much cooler than the short sleeve and is a pretty nice one in this list.

8th - Wolves

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Santiago Bueno of Wolverhampton Wanderers reacts after their team conceded a second goal during the Premier League match between Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers at Craven Cottage on November 01, 2025 in London, England.

Anybody else fancy the pub?

View 21 Images

Does anyone else get Wetherspoons plate vibes here?

The Wolves third kit is quite a sight, but it is a beautiful shade of ocean blue.

This design is said to be inspired by the energy and spirit of Brazil, and fans are certainly hoping the football begins to mirror some tiki-taka skills soon enough.

7th - Burnley

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru of SS Lazio competes for the ball with Hjalmar Ekdal of Burnley during the pre-season friendly match between Burnley and SS Lazio at Turf Moor on August 09, 2025 in Burnley, England.

Burnley have went black-and-gold for this third kit

View 21 Images

Starting at seventh place, there's a trend that black kits automatically receive a major pass.

Burnley's third strip is similar to another on this list but ranks one place lower due to the unusual gold specks that decorate the shoulder and hip of the shirt.

It's an interesting kit but nothing too special to climb up the rankings further.

6th - Fulham

Fulham third kit.

Fulham's blacked-out kit is simple but effective

View 21 Images

And here we have the other black-and-gold kit on this list. Fulham's alternative strip is clean and fresh, with a black base and gold piping all around the edges of the top.

While it is plain, it does the job and could be swapped with any other club's badge to work seamlessly.

£68 - BUY IT HERE.

5th - Chelsea

Chelsea's Estevao during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Chelsea at London Stadium on August 22, 2025 in London, England.

Chelsea's collar is the most unique part of this kit

View 21 Images

A shirt with a collar as unusual as this deserves its spot in fifth place. The Chelsea third kit is a middle badge, blacked-out piece of beauty.

The white neck trim that mimics a wide collar is perhaps the most interesting part of the strip and pulls it up to a higher place on the list than initially expected.

£84.99 - BUY IT HERE.

4th - Liverpool

Curtis Jones of Liverpool celebrates with teammate Milos Kerkez after he scored his side's first goal during the Premier League match between Brentford and Liverpool at Gtech Community Stadium on October 25, 2025 in Brentford, England.

Liverpool's third kit is something special

View 21 Images

Many will be surprised that this kit isn't higher given the fan reaction. The Liverpool alternative top is a bright blue-green colour and features a vintage club badge that complements the shirt beautifully.

Once again, the long-sleeved version is a much more appealing view than the short-sleeve, so it loses marks for that reason.

£51 - BUY IT HERE.

3rd - Arsenal

Mikel Merino of Arsenal during the Premier League match between Manchester United and Arsenal at Old Trafford on August 17, 2025 in Manchester, England.

Arsenal don't tend to miss with their kit releases

View 21 Images

Arsenal rarely miss the mark when it comes to kit releases and the 2025/26 season is no different. This third kit is designed to celebrate 20 years since Arsenal's last season at Highbury and features an alternative badge.

Sporting just the iconic cannon of the Gunners, this kit is white with a traditional collar and red accents with some gold subtly included.

£85 - BUY IT HERE.

2nd - Manchester United

Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United acknowledges the fans after his teams defeat during the Premier League match between Brentford and Manchester United at Brentford Community Stadium on September 27, 2025 in Brentford, England.

Manchester United's kit narrowly misses out

View 21 Images

Manchester United may have some turmoil on the pitch, but their kits always seem to hit the spot. The Red Devils' third top pays tribute to the iconic 1993-95 away shirt, also known as the 'Cantona Kit'.

The black-out kit with blue and yellow edges gives the top a fresh look and is finished with the original Adidas trefoil badge.

1st - Sunderland

Brian Brobbey of Sunderland in action during the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Sunderland at Selhurst Park on September 13, 2025 in London, England.

Sunderland took the crown in this table

View 21 Images

And finally, we have a kit absolutely deserving of its crown. Sunderland have just returned to the Premier League but are impressing both on the pitch and in their kit releases.

The third kit features 11 mandalas intermixed in the blacked-out base, with a unique black cat emblem used as the club badge.

Perhaps the most striking part of this kit is the pair of amber cat eyes on the back of the neck of the top, meant to symbolise past battles and focus on the future.
