Real Madrid'contact Liverpool over Ibrahima Konate transfer'as future clear

Ibrahima Konate's future at Liverpool has become slightly more clear.

The Liverpool defender's contract is up in the summer - and the 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, following in the footsteps of former team-mate Trent Alexander-Arnold after he made the jump last summer.

However, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein, Real have now made their stance over a potential deal clear. In a post on X, he said: "Real Madrid considered Ibrahima Konate but inform Liverpool they have no interest in signing France int’l."

He added that Konate's "contract situation could still go either way".

The Frenchman started during the Reds humiliating defeat to PSV on Wednesday evening, where he came under criticism for his role in the Dutch outfits third goal.

Speaking on CBS, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said, in an off-air rant: “Oh my god, Konate. Oh my god, Konate. Watch Konate here, oh my god!

“I’ve f****** had enough of them, honest to god. That Konate, I mean that’s a sackable offence for the manager, keeping f****** picking him. He should be sacked for that."

However, on air, he said: "Liverpool is not a sacking club. Liverpool are different from almost every club in European football where the manager is the king.

"They get time. Liverpool have never sacked a manager who won the league. Never, in their history - after a few years, they've gone and resigned.

"I couldn't believe at the weekend that people were talking about the manager's job, when I spoke to Liverpool supporters after losing at home to Nottingham Forest. It's only going to amplify now.

"I've always been in the camp of you stick with the manager. I'm really angry with the players, if I'm being honest.

"But it does get to a stage, with any manager at any club, where I always use this word 'untenable', where it can't go on any longer. I'm not quite there yet, personally, in terms of the manager, but I know a lot of supporters will be."

Steven Gerrard was also furious with Liverpool's performance: "The substitution of Konate was huge, that sends a story. You look at the back four that you finish with: Curtis Jones, Gravenberch, Van Dijk and Kerkez. That's not a Liverpool back four, never will be."
