Liverpool manager Arne Slot is coming under pressure after a run of nine defeats in 12 games and following back-to-back Anfield defeats

Both games followed a similar pattern, with the Reds dominating large periods of the first half - but never getting themselves in front. Then, in the second half the opposition outplayed them with Forest and PSV both deserving of their victories.

Slot currently has the backing of the club’s owners but a run of nine defeats in 12 games has seen reports circulate that a number of potential replacements are being weighed up.

Liverpool look to Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola

One name who has been linked in the Spanish media is Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola. The former Rayo Vallecano boss has managed the Cherries since 2023 and has done an impressive job on the south coast.

Bournemouth have limited resources and have also sold a number of star players over the years. However, they have started the current campaign in impressive fashion.

It is reported by Fichajes that “Liverpool see Iraola as a coach capable of driving the squad's evolution, improving ball circulation, organizing the press, and revitalizing players who are struggling to find their best form. His profile fits the long-term project the club envisions.”

Liverpool’s current squad look completely bereft of confidence and a number of the new signings made in the summer have struggled to settle. One of those is Milos Kerkez, who was managed by Iraola at Bournemouth last season. The left-back impressed with the Cherries which earned him his move to Anfield - and he is just one new signing who could stand to benefit if the Spaniard was to come to Anfield.

What Arne Slot has said about his Liverpool future

Asked if he’d spoke with the club owners and sporting director Richard Hughes after the loss to PSV, Slot said: “We've had the same conversations as we've had since I'm here. Not sure if I said it last night, but we fight on. We try to improve, that's what we all try, but the conversations have been the same as they've been for the past one-and-a-half years.”

The Liverpool boss was also questioned on how he can turn the current form around. He said: “That's not so easy to say what I can do different. It's quite normal if you win or lose or draw that you reflect on a game with decisions that you've made and what you've done during the week. [They are] all kind of the usual things managers do if they win or lose. But maybe you do it a little bit more if you lose. You try to find the answers to what is needed to win a game of football.

“In the end it's about doing what this club is about. It's keep fighting no matter how difficult it is. We have to fight together. But it would also be nice if we would reward ourselves in the moments we play well, because people are very focused, and correctly, about the parts we don't play well. There are definitely large parts of the games that we do play well and where we do create a lot of chances. We tend to forget to reward ourselves in those moments. Every small mistake, or small error, immediately leads to us conceding a goal. That is a very bad cocktail to have.”
