Manchester City’s Claudio Echeverri has been on loan at Bayern Leverkusen since last summer and played 240 minutes eight matches this season.
Earlier this month, Bild reported Pep Guardiola is unhappy with the youngster’s lack of minutes at the German club. They also stated Manchester City could recall him in January and send him on loan elsewhere.
Three days ago, Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes said they haven’t made a decision yet to terminate Echeverri’s loan.
On Wednesday, journalist Germán García Grova reported the 19-year-old wants to return to River Plate in the winter market. However, Manchester City are standing in his way as they want him to continue in Europe.
That doesn’t seem to have put off River Plate if Infobae are to be believed. Echeverri is a product of the Argentine club’s youth system and spent two years with their first team.
River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo wants changes to his squad in the next window. He’s already set his sights on Echeverri and ‘talks have begun’ to sign him.
The Argentina U23 international is pushing to return to his old club. He’s doing this while ‘keeping a low profile so as to not offend anyone’, mainly Manchester City. River Plate are also trying to convince Guardiola’s side.
Both Echeverri and River Plate have to convince Manchester City, who are not keen on letting him move to Argentina.
