Bucks await Giannis Antetokounmpo update as they brace for Knicks showdown in MSG

The Milwaukee Bucks enter Friday’s road game against the New York Knicks facing more uncertainty. With several players sidelined, the team waits to see if franchise star Giannis Antetokounmpo can play, as he remains listed as questionable with a left adductor strain.

Giannis’ availability for tomorrow’s game remains in doubt, leaving Milwaukee unsure if it will have its leading scorer and playmaker on the floor. The Bucks will also be thin across the roster, with Alex Antetokounmpo (G League Two-Way), Kevin Porter Jr. (recovering from right knee meniscus surgery), and Taurean Prince (recovering from neck surgery) all out.

As the Bucks endure a challenging injury stretch, Friday’s game will test their depth, resilience, and ability to stay competitive while waiting for their superstar’s return. Without Giannis, Milwaukee has struggled, going 0-5 against the Cavaliers, 76ers, Pistons, Trailblazers and the Heat. Sitting at 8-11, the Bucks now find themselves on the outside of the play-in picture.

Their best chance to turn things around rests on the team stepping up or Giannis returning, which now appears probable. After being scratched out for Wednesday, the Bucks superstar is listed as questionable for tomorrow, showing encouraging signs in his recovery.

Giannis had been rolling before the injury, putting up 31.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 1.2 blocks on a remarkably efficient 62.9 percent from the field and 50 percent from deep. His start to the season pushed him into the early MVP conversation, and if he returns at that level, he gives Milwaukee a much better chance to regain ground in the East.

Even then, the Bucks face a tough climb with teams like the Pistons, Raptors, and Heat pushing the pace, not to mention the reigning champions in the West in the Thunder who have opened the year at 18-1.

Milwaukee have faced a stretch that forced this group to show what it can do on its own. Giannis’ return will help, but the Bucks still have to commit to sharper play and tighter execution if they want to climb back into the race. Turning that mindset into consistent results, however, has proven far more difficult than they expected.

The Bucks return to Madison Square Garden tomorrow to face the Knicks, and they will rely on veterans like Myles Turner, Kyle Kuzma, and Gary Trent Jr. to set the pace from the opening tip. Giannis could shift the entire matchup if he suits up, but Milwaukee will not rush him or make any premature calls on his status.
