5 Potential Replacements for Arne Slot at Liverpool as Arteta&Maresca seem to be Cruising

Let’s not beat around the bush here – Arne Slot’s job at Liverpool is looking increasingly insecure. After an embarrassing defeat against PSV in the Champions League, the Dutchman looks to be hanging by a thread – just six months after he won the Premier League title in his debut campaign.

While Slot’s job remains intact as things stand, a managerial switch is not out of the question. Today, we’ll look at five head coaches who could potentially take the Liverpool hotseat in the event of Slot’s sacking. Who would be your pick?

You would expect Slot to get the same time as Enzo Maresca at Chelsea, Unai Emery at Villa and Mikel Arteta at Arsenal but there are no guarantees in football although the effect of the loss of Diogo Jota to Liverpool is hard to quantify and as Slot said recently, “we miss the person” as the Portuguese player was so loved at the club.

Good news for Liverpool is Arsenal face Chelsea this weekend and a draw would suit Liverpool.

Thiago Motta

While Thiago Motta’s last managerial stint at Juventus ended in an unsavoury manner, his strong stint at Bologna should not be forgotten – it saw him win the Serie A manager of the month award on four occasions.

An exciting, experimental manager, Motta would certainly bring entertainment and goals to Anfield, though his cavalier style of play may find him getting caught out by the Premier League’s craftier coaches. He is currently a free agent – he hasn’t taken on a new role since his departure from Juventus.

Oliver Glasner

Oliver Glasner is one of the most desired managers in the world at the moment. He has done a stellar job with Crystal Palace – could he replicate his Selhurst Park successes at Liverpool?

He is currently the second favourite to take on the Liverpool job with most bookmakers, according to Oddschecker. It’s easy to see why – not only is he a Premier League-proven manager, he is also a former Europa League winner, having won the trophy during his time at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Fabian Hurzeler

Fabian Hurzeler is a criminally underrated head coach. He is doing an excellent job at Brighton and previous achieved success at St. Pauli in his native Germany. Despite this, Hurzeler has yet to take on a role at a truly big club.

While he is an accomplished coach who has an excellent understanding of the tactical aspect of the game, Hurzeler’s age will be an issue. He has avoided problems at Brighton, but will a 32 year old be able to command the respect of some of football’s biggest superstars?

Edin Terzic

Edin Terzic’s time at Borussia Dortmund wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, but unlike some of the managers on this list, he proved he has what it takes to lead one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Since his departure from Dortmund in 2024, just after he led his beloved yellow and black to the Champions League final, Edin Terzic has been seldomly seen in football circles. Could Liverpool provide him with an opportunity to return to the fray?

Jurgen Klopp

Surely not? Well, the bookmakers seem to think Jurgen Klopp returning to Liverpool isn’t too far-fetched. According to Oddschecker, Klopp is the current favourite to take over at Anfield in the event of Slot’s sacking, with certain outlets giving him odds as short as 2/1.

Some may see bringing back Klopp as a backward step, while others would probably liken it to the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday. The main question for us is this – would Klopp want to return to the job he left just over a year and a half ago?
