Arne Slot “on the same page” as Curtis Jones after furious midfielder’s criticism

Arne Slot believes he is “on the same page” as Curtis Jones following the midfielder’s scathing criticism of Liverpool’s attitude during a run of nine losses in 12 games.

After Wednesday night’s 4-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven, Jones gave a furious interview with CBS Sports in which he admitted Liverpool were “in the shit.”

Slot was then asked about the 24-year-old’s comments during his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to West Ham on Sunday.

“It’s really good if you bring that to the game, and I think this is what the players at least tried to do [against PSV],” he told reporters.

“All the data in terms of running was very high; they had a lot of personal bests. So they tried a lot.

“But it didn’t lead to anything in terms of a result.

“And I think this is what he is saying: if we can bring this as a team to the game, this is the minimum I expect and the minimum the fans expect from us, that we fight.

“I use the word fight, he probably used some other words, but I think we are on the same page when it comes to how we want to get out of this situation.”

When speaking to CBS Sports, Jones called on his teammates to “be a dog” and “just go and smash someone.”

“I don’t have the answers. I’m the same as everybody else. Just unacceptable if I’m honest,” he added.

“I don’t even have the words. I’m past being angry and sad. I’m at the point now where I don’t even at the words.

“It’s hard to actually find the words. I’m playing as a player and a fan, and I’m seeing it like this.

“For a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a team playing this bad and results like this, but at the end of the day we’ve still got that badge on our chest.

“So until that badge goes, we’re always gonna fight and try to get this team back to where it needs to be and show the whole world why Liverpool is the best team in the world.

“But as of now, yeah, we’re in the s*** and it needs to change.”

To that end, Jones said: “It starts with just being a man out there and just wanting to tackle someone and just be a dog out there.”
