Sunday NFL Week 13 Player Props: Purdy And Ward

NFL Week 13 action started on Thanksgiving with three games, and it resumes with a Black Friday contest. Still, Sunday is filled with more NFL Week 13 games, including seven that start at 1:00 p.m. ET and three more in the late afternoon. Player props on each side of the over-under ledger stand out as the most appealing choices from the NFL Week 13 early-afternoon games.

NFL Week 13 Player Props

Brock Purdy (San Francisco 49ers - QB)

Under 207.5 Passing Yards (-115) at BetMGM

Brock Purdy began the season by spinning it for 277 passing yards against the Seahawks in Week 1 and 309 versus the Jaguars in Week 4 after the 49ers allowed him to play through turf toe. The 49ers shut him down to allow for more time for him to nurse his turf toe before reinserting him as their starting quarterback against the Cardinals in Week 11.

Sadly, he had just 200 passing yards against them, and he backslid to 193 passing yards against the Panthers in Week 12. Among 31 quarterbacks with at least 25 dropbacks since Week 11, Purdy is 21st in passing yards per game (196.5) and 18th in adjusted net yards per pass attempt (5.49 ANY/A). He hasn’t been sharp.

Unfortunately for Purdy, he’s in a nightmare scenario for turning his passing proficiency around this week. The Browns have allowed the fourth-fewest passing yards per game (196.3) this year and yielded just 203.5 passing yards per game since Week 8. Thus, they’ve remained in excellent form, and their dominance isn’t heavily backweighted to the beginning of the season.

Cleveland has been even more dominant when facing visiting quarterbacks. Lamar Jackson’s 193 passing yards are the most for a visiting quarterback to Cleveland this season, as Carson Wentz’s 236 passing yards against the Browns in Week 5 were accumulated abroad at Tottenham Stadium.

The Browns have permitted only 160.5 passing yards per game and 2.49 ANY/A in four home games this year. Purdy would need to be the first quarterback to best 200 passing yards against the Browns in Cleveland this year to go over his line of 207.5 passing yards.

He’d have a difficult time doing so in his present form under ideal circumstances. However, Purdy doesn’t have ideal conditions, as the weather forecast indicates there will likely be rain and strong winds. The combination of Purdy’s shakiness as a passer in the previous two weeks, Cleveland’s elite pass defense at home and the suboptimal weather for passing make Purdy’s under for 207.5 passing yards one of the most alluring NFL Week 13 player props.

Cam Ward (Tennessee Titans - QB)

Over 195.5 Passing Yards (-120) at Fanatics Sportsbook

Cam Ward hasn’t had an ideal rookie campaign. Instead, among qualified quarterbacks this season, he’s 22nd in passing yards per game (200.9) and 33rd in adjusted net yards per pass attempt (4.15 ANY/A). Even with his struggles, Ward has exceeded 195.5 passing yards in six of his 11 starts this year, with a median of 219.

Ward has also played better since the Titans fired Brian Callahan after Week 6 and promoted Mike McCoy to the interim head coach. In five games with McCoy as the interim head coach, Ward has recorded 221.8 passing yards per game, a 64.5% completion rate and 4.97 ANY/A, a marked improvement over 183.5 passing yards per game, a 55% completion rate and 3.45 ANY/A in his first six games.

Ward has cleared 195.5 passing yards in three of his past five games, with a median of 255. He can maintain his upward trajectory in a plus matchup on Sunday.

The Jaguars have faced an NFL-high 7.4% pass rate over expectations (PROE) this year and an even higher 9.0% PROE since Week 8. Jacksonville has yielded 253.5 passing yards per game this season and 252.3 passing yards per game since Week 8.

Moreover, the Jaguars have allowed eight quarterbacks to surpass 195.5 passing yards against them this season. Ward is playing well enough lately to clear the modest bar of 195.5 passing yards against the Jaguars, making his over for passing yards another one of NFL Week 13’s most enticing prop bets.
