Manchester United have learned how much it will cost to sign a 17-year-old midfielder who is considered the next Frenkie de Jong.
If Ruben Amorim can survive until next summer at Manchester United, he could find his options in midfield absolutely transformed, which in turn would make his team much better.
United have been linked with countless midfielders, and the list only seems to grow by the day, with a clear group of ready-made starters, such as Elliot Anderson, and then younger wonderkid options.

It could be United’s plan to sign one of each, both a top-tier Premier League proven midfielder, alongside a wonderkid who could be elite.
In this case, it is mandatory that United sign one wonderkid in particular and now his price point has been revealed.

Kees Smit to Manchester United latest transfer news
One very interesting name on the shortlist for United is Kees Smit, a Dutch wonderkid and top talent in midfield who is still just 17, despite being so well-rounded.
United are planning to battle for Smit in the new year, with multiple clubs interested which should make it a fierce transfer race.

Despite considerable interest, AZ do not intend to let Smit leave in January, and the fee for his signature in 2026 is expected to be as much as £53m, as there is no release clause.
It was reported last week that United have already made contact for Smit, with head of recruitment Christopher Vivell leading the charge to sign him.
Kees Smit would be the perfect midfielder for Ruben Amorim’s system
While not being United’s desired Premier League-proven midfielder, Smit is packed with potential and the qualities that make a top-tier midfield talent.
Compared with Luka Modric and Frenkie de Jong, Smit is a possession-first midfielder who can dictate play and also be creative going forward, something that United will need when Bruno Fernandes leaves.
Smit would bring some much-needed technical quality to a midfield that has struggled with retention this season; however, where he isn’t perfect is defensively, although he isn’t asked to play that role and should be capable of contributing.
Amorim wants more control in his team, and Smit would bring this, albeit he is still learning and a long way from his ultimate level.
Smit would be an excellent signing alongside an Anderson or Adam Wharton. United will have to beat Europe’s elite to sign him, though.
