Welcome to a series focusing specifically on the talented schoolboys at Arsenal who are currently at Hale End – those in the U16s and below. The academy is based in E17, Walthamstow. The fourth article is on Angelinou Pedro.
A left-sided centre-back who reads the game well, Pedro has achieved some significant milestones recently.
The defender made his competitive debut for Arsenal U18s as he was named in the starting lineup against Norwich in the Premier League Cup last weekend.
That was followed by his debut as a substitute against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Youth League.
It is anticipated that Pedro will be part of next season’s scholarship intake and before then he will be looking to establish himself as a regular in the starting lineup for the U18s.
Given that there aren’t too many left-sided centre-backs in the academy Pedro could make quick progress, while he has already trained with the first-team squad.
Last season Pedro was part of the Arsenal U17 squad that won the Flamengo Adidas Cup in Brazil and he featured for the U18s against Dover in pre-season.
